Label/rename and organize/reorder symbol library
As title! I'm sure this will come into play as part of https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/12931467-reusable-symbols-master-objects
but I just wanted to make sure it was out there.
Partial completion — Label/rename done, organize/reorder engineering effort in process.

Very needed.

While I am not a big fan of the mockup presented here (previews are way too small), I would very much like to have a feature that allows grouping symbols in the library (such as folders) and reordering them. This way, it would be possible to use the full potential of symbols. I could for example create symbols for complete repeating dialogs without loosing the track of the number of symbols (my current project has about 200 screens - I could not possibly create symbols for all interface elements without some kind of organization tool because then I would spend more time searching for symbols than anything else).

Sometimes I have had to redo a symbol, and when I add it to the library it's miles away from the other symbols of its kind.
It would be useful to be able to rearrange symbols manually and/or in categories and/or being able to group them for easy finding when you have hundreds!

I'd feel like if Symbols could be sorted hierarchically with custom titles and groups, with symbols that are draggable like layers panel. It would be like the function of Style Guide already.
The top right icon for symbols tab, you could do "Add New Symbol" and "Add New Group"
Symbols can also be dragged from XD to other places like Google Docs to paste as an image.
Then if you could export the css/html from the symbol for the developers you can start to celebrate completing the suggestions with 1k+ votes :D

I agree, the ability to name symbols globally would be extremely helpful. I'm wasting time renaming layers because I don't always want to click on an item to scan layer order.

If I have a group with a name on it, let's say "Badge_count" and I create that group into a Symbol, the symbol should take the name from the folder and be "Badge_count".
Therefore, when I reuse that symbol and drag it into the canvas, that symbol/group should already be named that. This is the entire concept of Atomic design and symbols.
The way it is now when I drag a symbol out to the canvas, and it is a generic name, that is not helpful and all.
On top of all this, there should be a label with the symbol name in the Symbols panel.

The ability to group Symbols as nested folders like in Sketch, i.e.:
Buttons/save/unselected
Buttons/save/selected
Media/video/single
Media/video/many

Symbols are global right? You update one symbol, and all instances of that symbol update accross all your artboards where you used that symbol. Makes sense to be able to give a name to your symbol and have the name applied within the layers panel. Easier to see where your symbols are within the layers pane.

Global symbol names would be ideal.

Ability to organize my symbols into custom named groups/sets/categories.
This probably goes hand-in-hand with other feature request with exporting and importing symbols...

Definitely an inconvenience that I can't zoom in or even just list them by name so I can see which symbol I'm pulling into my mockup

Just ran into this. It is an inconvenience. Love to be able to name my symbols since I'm writing a parser to comb the SVG and generate code afterwards. That way I can have a bunch of UI widgets ready to go, like textfield, checkbox, radio button, etc. and just drag n drop em to the artboard!!
Love XD, love your show, never change....except this. Change this. :)
Love,

I've created a series of symbols that are the width of a landscape iPad screen but have a shallow height. The symbols are similar enough that the thumbnail in the symbol list is too "zoomed out" and does not easily allow me to differentiate which symbol is which. Right now, I have to try to remember each symbol's relative position and drag each one down onto the artboard until I find the one I'm looking for. I should be able to name each symbol and view that name in the list (even if only when hovering).

The inability to change symbol names from inside the Symbol Library is a huge inconvenience. It means that every time I use a symbol, I have to change its name from "Symbol 3-1" (for example) to "Edit icon" (for example).
All you would need to do is add "Rename" to the right-click menu in the Symbols Library. If it doesn't seem to make sense to be able to rename something that doesn't appear to even have a name in the Symbols Library, well then show a tooltip when hovering over it (after a few seconds of delay). That should be there anyway as a basic aspect of usability.

I second Steve's comment. It'd be nice to more easily be able to navigate the symbols panel. Whether that's sections separated by headers, a search bar at the top that filters as you type, etc....

Sections in the library for different types of elements would be useful. Icons, Bars, Content, etc.
