Go Back One Screen in Prototype Preview
As a user, I want to be able to go back one screen if I am viewing my prototype in preview mode so that I don't get stuck on a screen that I haven't prototyped yet.
Sometimes, I just want to test that all of the buttons on a screen take the user to the screens they are supposed to, but I may want to continuously go back to the previous screen because I may want to test a new path.
Perhaps a keyboard command would be great. You could also make it go back if you click 3 times on the preview window, or tap 3 times if you're considering allowing us to preview prototypes in a companion app one day. ;)
We’ve added new features recently to our shared prototype viewer that I think you’ll like. Now, when you view your shared prototype, you should be able to use the navigation buttons (as well as the left/right arrow keys) to be able to shuffle through your artboards in order, even if you have interactions defined. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Update for @VincentS and other people visiting this page in 2019:
In XD prototyping mode you can select the ACTION “previous artboard” which does exactly what it says. Whether you came to Artboard X from Artboard 1, 2, or 3, this action (not a destination) will take you back to where you were one step before.
Works like a charm. Here’s more info:

I know this feature is marked as completed, but I agree with Jonathan's comment – it would be great to have a way to navigate back to the previously viewed artboard in preview mode, rather than the one to its left in the composition. With multiple artboards all linking back to a handful of source boards, it's simply not possible to arrange all boards in a "linear" flow in complex mockups. It does get tiring jumping back out of preview mode and selecting the boards manually any time the client asks to "go back". Only current workaround is to add an invisible button with a "back to previous" link to every artboard.

The "back" only works in a linear outline. I just tested it out in one of our concepts. If I am viewing dartboard 1, click to view dartboard 2 then hit the "left arrow key," I it brings up the art board to the left in the overall design, not the previous screen. It would be really nice to be able to have a "go back" capability that took you to the previous screen you were viewing, not the previous screen in the workflow - if that makes sense.
