Maintain text formatting when copying and pasting from edit mode (rich text)

  1. XD 0.5.4.51
  2. Inside a text block select text with either a multiple fonts or a font that is different from the target text block. Copy your selection. Next go into a different text block that has the different font selection than what you copied. Paste.
  3. It should retain the font selection from before you copied.
  4. It changes all the pasted font to the font selection of the target text block.

    Guys this is lame, pathetic and embarrassing when developers complain to me about the text formatting...They all recommend I work in Figma or else !

    They all say when copy texts from my prototype, the paste is a long row of characters without any formatting !!!

    Do Adobe even read these forums? This seems like such an easy fix that would save so much time.

    They need to do a "Snow Leopard" release of XD that doesn't introduce anything new and just fixes all the dumb.

    This is a big pain in the butt. Why is this still not a feature yet? You can easily copy styles in Figma. On top of that Character Styles and Paragraph styles are separate. AND styles are independent of colour.

    I'd rather have these simple useful features than all these new features like 3D.

    5 years later and now Version 38.1.12.2 and there's still no solution … It's so time consuming to assign all the text formatting again! And copy paste from XD to text document (and the other way round) should copy the weight, font, color. Like InDesign does and other apps …

    what!!! new to XD just tried to copy a line of text that had different sizes weights and colours so i could create a line of text that was exactly in the same style as the copied line of text. when i paste it converts the whole line of text back to one weight one colour. How on earth is this useful to anyone whos writing this software are they aware that his should retain all the text information or are they to lazy to code.

    Yeah, a big vote for this. A lot of my work involves text work, with formatting such as bold, text-links, etc. It's infuriating that I have to reformat everything when I paste. I know I can just duplicate the initial text block, but why am I forced to work in the way you (Adobe) wants vs how I do? Especially given XD's sub-par layer management interface, it's much easier to just duplicate a group containing text and copy and paste from elsewhere, rather than find the text layer, copy, then find the appopriate place in the new group, and paste.

    Puh yes please. I need more keeping my formatting, when I copy then change my formatting in the one of the text-frame. Please add a way to keep my formatting. I think today I waste 1 hour just to format new after copy and paste. (yes sometimes I don't want to split the text in single text-frames …)

    4 years later, and this hasn't been implemented yet. Honestly, engineers, have you really never used Illustrator or inDesign? How was this behavior not incredibly obvious?

    When a word is cut from the text frame and pasted anywhere else it should retain the same style of the text frame.

    CTRL+V = paste the text while preseving style
    CTRL+SHIT+V = paste as plain text and adapt it the block style

    Within XD, I should be able to select text in a text box that contains different fonts or different weights of the same font, copy the text, and then paste it somewhere else - all while having it retain all its formatting! If I want plain text on a paste - I'd have to select that option for the menu and then paste with no formatting.

    It seems like you guys have it reversed and it is particularly jarring because it is not how other applications currently function in this regard.

    **An example where it provides me discomfort**

    When I use the FontAwesome icon font in my designs...if I copy an icon and want to use it within the next paragraph of text, in the same text box...I have to re-select it from the font menu every time I paste it.

    It would be a great addition to be able to copy text with different weights and paste it and keep the same weights as copied.

    I sometimes work with text boxes instead of simple text object (for lists and big paragraphes) and it's painful not to be able to just copy and paste the same text over and over without keeping the same font weights.
