Defined border/stroke (or shadow) around the edge of a mask
I am not sure if you already have a request for this, however, it would be nice if we could add a border on the outside of a masked circle or square.

I cannot believe we're in 2022 and still I have to copy shapes to get a simple border to a masked image.... SHAME

This request is totally reasonable, an obvious feature that should be available in XD, almost 6 years old... and its still untouched.

"Only" five (5) years later and nothing happened. Still not working!

It is impossible that this doesn't work yet.

Intersection Boolean works 👍

FYI, I achieved the same masking effect by using the Intersection Boolean in the top right corner, and you CAN apply a border or shadow to that.

Adding my ever-growing frustration with XD; in this episode: NO STYLING FOR MASKS! How has Sketch not blown you guys out of the water yet??

I masked an image inside of a rectangle and now I can't add a shadow outside of the mask group. I tried adding a shadow to the rectangle that's inside the mask group, but it doesn't show outside the bounds of the mask group.
I would add a rectangle with a shadow behind the mask group but I want the shadow to appear when hovering the mask group. Please add this feature.

This has to be fixed!

very inexperienced in masking. We need to take a Photoshop sample. No such good practice. Please speed up your work on this. Sketch does not have such a problem. They took the photoshop as an example. We're masking the same logic.

Maybe this is a bug too. The border is checked but nothing is visible. And when the group border is marked just the image-rectangle-border will get a border. But the image-rectangle is in the mask, so in this case just left and right is visible … puuh

This is a must have … Adobe XD wants to be a easy to use app. But if I had to add rectangles over rectangles to have a ordinary cutout of an image and a border/shadow or background of a semitransparent image it makes everything complicated and frustrating. That this is in the backlog since 2016 … unbelievable …
The work with images to make a proper cutout is much too complicated. make it easy like in Adobe InDesign! No masks and stacking rectangles needed for simple borders/cutouts … Just drag and drop or import and assign a border. Voila!

somebody has written : "if you're trying to mask an image and then apply some effects like shadow or border, simply drag the image from the folder into the XD shape. It's the only way it works unfortunately. XD has a lot of potential, but right now it's still a toy."
I AGREE WITH THIS SO MUCH... Seriously??? Why is this most bloody BASIC of functions not available. come on adobe. this is embarrassing.

Before you mask them, make a copy of the shape you are using. Apply a shadow the the copy. Then place the copy with the shadow directly under the masked image.
Your welcome

It astonishes me how lacking the DESIGN aspect of this software is. Every update I see are meaningless unuseful crap we designers don't need. And what amazes me more is how SLOW progress of this app is in comparison to any other software on the market. This leads me to question if Adobe even cares about XD or if they hired the most incompetent project managers.

This is one of the most basic possible features. Come on, Adobe!

This key-feature has not been implemented in XD even now two years after this bug allegedly has been filed by Admin Adobe. What does that tell us about the state of XD development?

This feels like a key thing to do since the masking options are limited. Having a design with images that require a border is cumbersome right now as I have to duplicate the mask, delete the image, take the original mask box fill, turn it off and make a border. If I want to resize the box? I have to do the process all over again. It's a real pain and I hope this feature moves up in the backlog.
