Copy from XD & paste into Illustrator (or Photoshop)
For any given vector pieces, to be able to copy from XD and cut to illustrator. We can do it in the other way for now, but it would be great if it could work the other way too.
To rework an icon for example, or trick an object with more advanced tools like in illustrator. Why ? It's faster than to export to svg and export it back again. It would also allow to keep your objects scaled the same way.
This feature is now available in the March release! If you don’t see an update, select the … icon in the Creative Cloud desktop app and select “Check for App Updates.” If you have further feedback on this feature, please feel free to file a new ticket!

I agree this would be really useful, I'm finding it quite annoying, and sketch allows for it...wink wink ;)

Definitely agree with many commenters: direct copy paste is way more appealing to me than having to use (and bloat) CC library just for the sake of being able to copy back to illustrator.

Hey Adobe, why this feature is not working yet?
Come, if I'm able to copy a vector from Illustrator and past in XD why can't I copy/paste in the other way since I also work with vector inside the XD?
I don't want to save assets in the library, I just want to select the whole artboard, copy and past back in Illustrator to edit anything I want.

If I copy and paste from XD to Photoshop. It should ask Smart object, Pixels, Path & Shape. Same like Illustrator. So we can use vector or raster in photoshop also. Or use vector kit elements in Photoshop.

@Demian The route via CC Library should definitely be implemented in the future. Direct copy and paste however is more critical. The typical use case for me is when I need more complex vector edititing capabilities. This does not nescessarily mean, that what I'm working on is relevant to my library, that I would prefer to populate only with things I intend to use repeatedly.

*Bump* That this is still not implemented is getting silly.
There's no point in arguing its utility; copy/paste between apps is a bedrock feature of Adobe apps.
Heck, over 25 years ago you could copy EPS from Illustrator into other applications.

PS. export to SVG seems to work just fine.

Hi Mihnea,
When I copy an object from XD with a mask, it is copied WITH the mask. However if I copy the contents of an artboard. The mask of the artboard is not copied along with it which is what I'd expect.
The bitmap issue I can't seem to replicate. I copied vector/bitmap objects out of XD into Illustrator and the bitmap would show cropped and smashed together. If I find out how to replicate it, I'll let you know!
Could you also do me the great favour and check in on the other topic I linked in my earlier comment? If you haven't already of course.
Thank you so much!
It seems like I can't

Also Mihnea, could you maybe throw a look at
It seems like it got snowed under a bit but no admin ever replied to it. From a User Experience standpoint I still wonder about it and I miss it dearly as it would GREATLY improve my work speed

@Mihnea
Thanks for your comment. The export SVG actually is a MAJOR drain on my workflow. However better than nothing. But it doesn't "bring" masking with it, and if there are any bitmaps included as well then it tends to show weird and unpredictable behaviour.
I hope this feature will soon be implemented.
Is there, by any chance, a public backlog list?

@James I consider this a bug since it does allow copy/pasting. both ways. I consider it behaviour that should work both ways. Copy vectors in; get vectors. Copy vectors out; get vectors, not bitmap.

Kevin, I feel your pain, I need this daily using XD and it's never available

Surely this isn't a bug, it's a feature that hundreds, if not thousands of us have wanted since day one of XD...?

Hi Mihnea!
I'm using all the most recent versions available at the time of writing for Xd, Ai and macOS.
It happens for -every- object, no matter how simple or complicated even text: https://i.imgur.com/Kd00E5T.png
It pastes it as a .tif bitmap. Very, VERY, annoying. This forces me to make all my objects in Ai and then paste it into Xd. So I have to use 2 programs at the same time, always.

When I copy a carefully crafted object from XD to Illustrator, it pastes it as a bitmap rather than vector object.

Definitely useful to be able to copy/paste back and forth from Illustrator or other programs. The wireframe/first design stage is often a bit quick and dirty. For instance I made a quick button in Illustrator, moved it to XD but never saved the Illustrator file. To modify the button a bit I now had to export a SVG. Not end of the world, but Copy/paste would be faster of course.

Once I copy paste a vector into XD,
The vector is un editable since it cannot be copied back to illustrator.
Edit feature needed since strokes or borders remains unchanged on scaling inside XD.
