Automatically slide other artboards out of the way when moving / reordering
It would be nice to be able to precisely swap the position of two artboards by dragging and holding a modifier key. So for instance, if there are three artboards in a row, I could hold CMD while dragging artboard 1, and as I hover between artboards 2 and 3, artboard 2 moves to the left to make room to drop artboard 1.

I often find that I need to create a variation of a screen and duplicating an artboard places it at the very end of the canvas when what I really want is for it to appear next to the one I duplicated and move the others along.

@Corey... Yes, your idea for a "Drag affordance" feature would be perfect.

I agree, when working with lots of boards it would be really convenient to have an easy way to shuffle the order around.
Would also be nice if there was a way to turn on default spacing between boards that you could control. For instance, if turned on, you could keep all artboards 100px from each other.

If I make an artboard longer I'd like the row of artboards under it to dynamically move down.

I'm surprised Adobe hasn't fixed this, as this has been a big pain point in Illustrator. When making wizards for example, if you realize that you need more states or pages between screens, you have to manually move screens around to present an ideal flow.
It would be nice when the artboard tool was selected, that if you clicked between two artboards, the new artboard would be inserted there and push or pull other artboards down the flow away.

Currently if I want to rearrange artboards - for instance, if I want an alternative for a previously created layout - I have to move them all around to slot the new one in where I want it.
It would be great if the artboards reshuffled to accommodate.

I am experiencing the same issue and I find it very difficult to select an artboard and all its content to move.

How would a drag affordance for a single artboard work for you? e.g. Let's say if you dragged an artboard between two others it would do the housekeeping and layout necessary to move the others aside and apply the default margins appropriately?
In the mean time for your OCD, when you are adjusting manually you should be able to use the distance snap decorations to let you know when you have uniform spacing. e.g. If you drag one artboard away from it's neighbor artboards then back again you should see the ping snap decorations appear showing you the 70 unit spacing.

After creating 10 art boards, I realised that one scenario in the middle was missed out. Now have to make a new art board and insert it in between. But now have to manually move all the art boards. Would like the space between the artboards to be uniform. Sorry if this seems like an OCD :P
