Snap text box edges to edge of text
When using the Text Tool, it would be good if the edges of the automatically created text box snapped to the edges of the text. This would ensure distance between elements is calculated from the text itself, rather than the text box it sits within.
Since March release, double-clicking on the bottom resize handle of an area text will fit its height to match the content inside.

Now in the Text Toolbox plugin. I guess they don't monitor the feedback too quickly.

This is important

We need this ASAP!!!! We need to be able to calculate from text instead of from text box.

Pleeeeeaaaseeeeee!!!!!! This is very important. There's no way to measure the real distance from the real text to another object.

This would be a great aid to the spec feature (measurement between objects) in XD now.

This is a feature that should be in all Adobe Software. I always have to account for this myself by using a shape layer and dragging a square over the optic representation of the text graphic to insure I have it sitting centrally. It's very tedious.

I wonder if the larger issue here is that XD automatically adds space around text instead of fitting the "text box" to the content.
Imagine inspecting a line of 24px text in the browser with line-height: 1, padding: 0, and margin: 0. The height of that line would be 24px tall. Because you cannot replicate that in XD, it makes spacing/sizing/measuring elements much more difficult. Do you agree?

Hi Elaine,
Yes - my apologies, that was taken in Adobe InDesign as an example since this feature is in that program. I do know that XD has the point text (click and type) but the issue I am finding with that method is you are not able to adjust the height/width of the text box afterwards. Instead, by dragging the corner, it scales the type up or down.
My request is in regards to the scenarios in which you wish to draw the text box manually using the type tool. So, for example - in XD, I would select the type tool from the left menu then click & drag the text box to my desired width. At this point, I am not able to make this a specific height yet - this will be determined by the text I choose to paste within it. Ideally, once I paste my copy into the text box I would be able to take my cursor and hover over the circle located on the bottom/center of the text box and double click to snap the height of the container to the baseline of the last line of text "feature request".
Does that make sense? I wish I could attach another screenshot in here to show you what exactly I mean. I do realize this is not a crucial feature to implement right now but I have realized it allows for more accurate spacing in between elements on the artboards and cuts down design time.

Would love it if we could easily snap the text box to the height/width of the text by double clicking the corner of the text box. Haven't found a way in the program yet to be able to do that - I have to manually adjust the text box.
In InDesign, we can do this by double clicking on the area text.

This would be really useful. Snap to text edge exactly like inDesign

It would be great to be able to set the line height of text to 1, so the text box is the same height as the largest letter in the text. This would enable the visual distance to be the same as the distance from the box model of the object.
Sketch sucks at this so if you want text to be visually 10px away from another object the distance when inspecting would show 6px or something because the extra padding around the text box sue to the line-height.
