Nevermind. Doesn't work.

Maybe make a huge colored rectangle, send to back and lock?

Such a light background is very tiring for my eyes. Customization can be helpful. All other platforms have this feature.

all other apps have this (to a lesser degree) in particular for me its the ability to make the surrounding file display white.

I agree this should be an option. Especially if it means getting to a darker interface quicker, but overall the specific grey that is default is too close to my placeholder media elements when wireframing. Please allow a toggle + custom Hex for the pasteboard.

This feature exists in Ps, figma, and most design tools. It is very useful.

Yeah, for sure this feature should be added, so people can change background color to custom

I 100% agree with this. This is an application designed for -designing- user interfaces. And THIS app doesn't have a "dark mode"?? There are janky code-writing freeware softwares that enable this, and YOUR OWN apps like Premiere and After Effects already give the ability to adjust the UI colors like this. Please fix, this is a problem I'd understand having 5 years ago. But not now.

As someone who specializes in senior living, Adobe needs to seriously consider allowing more options for the aging population, 50+ which many are original Adobe die-hard users and best free company sales force.
Consideration should be given to allowing using much more versatility in changing UI colors to better accommodate lessening eye strain, let alone macular degeneration, color blindness, etc.
Dark mode is a start, it would be great to see Adobe step out front and prepare its SaaS product line to be more easily usable on the eyes in the years to come, let alone set a standard with an empower user UI for others to follow.
Just a suggestion.

Must have feature. Why isn't this added now? It's 2021. This thread is 5 years old. What is wrong with adobe?

Must have feature! When use testing our apps which have a light grey artboard, the UI gets blended into the background. Need to be able to control the background canvas color.

I need this too... I am often creating interfaces with light and dark themes these days, and when viewing my prototype and switching to the dark theme the background color being so light is quite jarring.

Ability to change the canvas color. Even if its light or dark only.

Add my vote to this feature suggestion. I can't imagine it's a hard thing to do.

I'd like the option to make the background white so that It can simulate a larger viewer window. The ability to customize the background would help with that and also if the user likes a darker experience.

As a solution to this issue I have been shift selecting the name of each art board then changing the background color at once. If I knew in advance what color my background needed to be I would make the first art board the correct color the copy it as I go. I am voting for this request because a global fix to change all artboards at the same time would be much more convenient.
