Export to After Effects to add animation
The best animation tool... gotta communicate with AE like PS
Hi everyone,
I’m happy to announce that with version 13 you can export your designs from XD to After Effects. Layers, artboards, symbols, groups and artwork are transferred as editable and with great visual fidelity.
Here’s how it works:
1. In XD, select the layers or artboards you want to animate in After Effects.
2. Go to: File> Export > After Effects. If After Effects is not installed on your machine, this option is greyed out. You can also use the ⌥⌘F (Mac), or Ctrl+Alt+F (Windows) keyboard shortcuts.
3. The selected layers or artboards are added as native shapes, texts, assets, and nested compositions in your AE project.
Here’s the list with what’s supported and not supported at this time: https://helpx.adobe.com/ro/xd/kb/open-after-effects-files-in-xd.html
Thanks for voting this feature and let us know how it works!
Best,
Dan Tuhoarca

Adobe, I really like XD and the apps in Creative Cloud are very good.
Good XD can have a timeline system for easily animating each element.
Figma, Policy, Invasion Studio, and even Dead Tools are a good option for creating animations in Adobe Edge Animate, and Adobe can get some insights with those tools.
I'm doing a great job with Adobe in Creative Cloud apps and I'm really enjoying it.

And to add to my comment, after trying to exporting and nothing showing in AE, if I try again, XD doesn't highlight the Export > After Effects option. You need to restart XD in order to even try.
Thanks -

Same as comments below, just tried exporting. AE opens but it has nothing there.
I'm on Windows 10.

The feature no once can use can not be marked as FEATURE-COMPLETED
I have instant AE crash when it imports XD artboards. -

yup, this isn't working as of the latest releases. Made a new project in XD, created a simple square shape and exported it to After Effects... After Effects opens up but nothing happens.
Trying the same process with After Effects already open also results in nothing happening.

I would like to suggest an improvement. After I create some animations on after effects I could import this back to XD and then a could be able to interact with tap, scroll and other interactions.
Or better XD could have a timeline system to be easy animate each element.
Figma, principle, invision studio and even the dead tool adobe edge animate have a good options to make animation and adobe could get some insights with those tools
I for end Adobe developer are making an amazing job with this tools and I'm really enjoying.

Adobe, I genuinely love Xd and want to utilize applications on Creative Cloud. Be that as it may, Sketch has modules so it is far less demanding for me to fare and open in After Effects. As Xd is an Adobe application, I feel like you're genuinely passing up streamlining your stages for UI/UX architects.

Adobe, I truly love Xd and prefer to use applications on Creative Cloud. But, Sketch has plugins so it is far easier for me to export and open in After Effects. As Xd is an Adobe application, I feel like you're truly missing out on optimising your platforms for UI/UX designers.

Please Please Please. Using Figma for in browser design (real time collaboration + able to pickup on a chromebook = amazing), but I would also drop it in a second for AE integration. A workflow similar to the old Sketch2AE plugin (live shape layers + editable text) would be ideal.

So We can use AE to edit the content of XD and perform motion design.
