Items keeps going into the pasteboard instead of within the artboard
Trying to create auto animate between two artboards. When I need to put the items outside the artboard, it goes into the pasteboard.
There is a workaround to put them in the group so a part of it stays in the artboard. But it's still not good enough.
Create the transition first (connect the 2 artboards), copy the component onto the 2nd artboard and then move it.

I think this bug has been reintroduced with XD 19? May be I'm wrong about that, but in any case this needs fixed or creating auto-animate became nightmare

I thought I was having this same issue, but it turned out that when I remade a couple of screens in my prototype I hooked up a transition instead of an auto-animation. Even after setting the artboards to auto-animate, I still had to delete the item that was outside of the artboard, and copy/paste it back in from a separate artboard in order to get it to work correctly.
I think this feature could use improvement. Could users have the control to explicitly set what artboard an item is a part of, even if it is placed outside of that artboard's bounds? Being require to setup auto-animate before placing the items is not intuitive. Plus, I design my UI before I worry about animations, so the current state is forcing me to work in a certain order.
The name of the items needs to be the same on both Artboards. Next switch to Prototype mode and setup the Auto-animate interactions. Then switch back to Design mode and move the item off the Artboard.
