Repeat grid is now including shadow in the spacing value
When an element has a shadow and a repeat grid is applied the spacing option now includes the shadow width or height as part of that padding.
Thanks for the video! Very helpful. I think this is as designed. Let me connect with the team to confirm.

The inclusion of drop-shadow in the grid gutter is greater problem than it seems, making placement and calculation very difficult especially with drop shadows that have values not confirming to the layout grid. I believe most users would like the shadow to not affect spacing.

Just came across this myself. No way would I judge the space between two elements on the drop shadow. If its two cards with drop shadows, I want the distance to be based on the card backgrounds not the drop shadows.

I wanted 20px spacing from objects. Not from the end of the drop shadow.
Be great to get this fixed next update.
Thanks for your help Joe
This is going to be frustrating but it is what it is. I just wish half my team hadn't updated.
Thank you for taking the time to clarify the issue.
One thing which may alleviate some of your concern is that this latest change will not affect any previous designs. It will only occur when you create the repeat grid, and does not occur when you open, edit, or add/remove content from any existing repeat grid.
Repeat grids will continue to have their object bounds (not the cell bounds) calculated for Design Specs (Share for Development), so there should be no change introduced by the new repeat grid creation behavior.
Please log a feature request at https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests for your idea to provide user control over whether to include/exclude overflow effects when creating a repeat grid.
This is how I would expect it to work
When coding a layout like this the shadow is not included in the "grid gap" or "gutter" set out by the UI framework. So when laying this out as a design I now need to consciously account for the shadow and subtract this from the gap to ensure the grid adopts the correct spacing rules.
This is going to cause a great deal of rework to our designs when a team member opens a design using version 14 - any adjustments in future we will need to recalculate all of our grids.
I've tested the "Share for development" feature and in here it treats the shape width not including the shadow which contradicts the thinking in design mode... https://www.dropbox.com/s/j4x2lg5thvqihgt/Screen%20Shot%202018-12-21%20at%203.41.04%20PM.png?dl=0
if this is the treatment for repeat grids in future I would expect to see a toggle to include/exclude shape effects in the dimensions - if that makes sense :)
Thanks for your help
We recently changed Repeat Grid creation behavior to address feedback raised in this issue: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353010-adobe-xd-bugs/suggestions/13116474-repeat-grid-clips-cuts-off-lines-path-strokes.
Prior to XD 14, the drop shadows would not have been displayed within the cell when you created the repeat grid - now they (along with borders and blurs) are calculated to fit within the repeat grid cell without clipping. Can you go into. a bit more detail about what you would expect, and why?
Thanks for your feedback,
This video should demonstrate the problem.
