Echoing all the other comments- remotely working and spent hours on a file my supervisor can't edit because enterprise accounts can't be updated with the same speed. Now I come off looking like I offered a design solution for our team that wasted everyone's time and money!

We've release a service that makes files compatible with older versions: https://xd2sketch.com/open-xd-file-old-corrupted

March 2021 and this issue still persists. I work in two computers with different OS and therefore one has newer versions. Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator all allow you to save in older versions. Why can`t XD do the same?? It`s ridiculous. It makes the software unusable.

When I worked in an IT support role back in the 1990's we had a problem with different versions of MS Word used throughout the enterprise and home locations. Remember Word 95, Word 97, Word 2000 etc? It was a real headache.
But things matured over time and compatibility issues got eliminated.
Now over 20 years later Adobe are giving us the same problem. -

Sometimes when you share your work with others, you may find yourself in a pickle if both of you aren't running the same version of the program.
It's understandable that an older version wouldn't be compatible with a newer one, as it has new features, changed code, etc.
However, I see no reason why we shouldn't allow a newer version to be compatible with an older one. After all, a newer version should have all the same features, and any code changes should be archived somewhere anywhere. Why not instead make a little warning for the user with a newer version stating that the document was created with an older version, and therefore some functions and features may not be available, and then temporarily open the document using the older version of the program.

I can't open a v37 XD file with my v36 xd app !!!! :-(
Adobe has not understood the big companies that manage updates with a small delay compared to the release of new versions of Adobe
Respond and quickly correct it -

This is horrifying. The auto-save overwrote the file and now the owner can't edit because she can no longer update XD on her OS. We are completely stuck. If I downgrade my XD version I won't be able to open it either?!?! WTF! How was this this easy????????

This is a huge pain in the ass. Why can't you provide even the same versions on MacOS and Windows??? This is producing heavy troubles in my opinion. Don't make your customers angry!!!

Please give us our livelihood back by letting us open new version files in older versions...
Our systems are not that upgraded.. And many might even lose their jobs due to this. Especially in pandemic times, people are still working from home. I am using an imac mid 2011 and can't afford another one in near future.Otherwise we will need to find a justable software to work out our means.

This is imperative for our agency, as I am sure it is for many others. I can not share a file with my colleague on an older mac and when working remotely it is not possible to just swap macs!
Please make it possible to back-save like we can with InDesign. -

Why is that topic shown as solved in the forum? This problem concerns most of the users of adobe XD. The answer «There's no way to save XD files as a specific version ...» is not a solution. So offer a solution please.

Please. I have an older machine with a large screen that I can't use because the XD version can't be updated to a newer version.

I'm experiencing this issue now. Broken laptop has forced me to switch to an older backup computer. Now I can't open my latest XD projects. No problem working on my Figma projects - just sayin'.

This is a larger issue than the votes depict. It is everyone's problem. Some enterprises don't allow Cloud, and disallow individual users to manage their Adobe accounts. If working with outside parties who have different versions of XD, trying to meet deadlines while waiting for slow IT to go thru the red tape to update XD becomes impossible.
This is also a UX problem. This shouldn't be passed off as a problem to IT departments of super large companies who pay Adobe a huge amount - we should expect better service. Adobe needs to feel the pulse of this problem!
