Switch between grid and flow view for Share for Development

There has been a recent change to the share for Dev view. We relied on that view to express flows. Now it is in a grid similar to Zeplin. I get the change, but not the removal. It would be great to be able to switch between the two. This way individual assets are still quickly accessed and the flow can also be expressed. Our devs were looking at the linking and able to view the overall flow. This was determined to be extremely helpful.

So, the flow arrows are back. And what about column grid? How do I share columns with devs? Drawing them on the artboard, as I had to do when I used Invision, is also impossible as it would place them above the elements that the dev has to interact with. It was there before, why did you decide to remove it? Come on, it was just an option on the sidebar in specs view.

Great to see this back! it created some headaches mid-app-development.

Could we also have the same 'flow view' in the review link?

Nice to see the flow view back! Lesson to be learned: Ask us before you start having "great ideas" next time. I mean it. Do a poll or something, that would save both you and us heaps of work. By the way, could you please make flow view default? There's nothing in the user response that should defend grid view being default, on the contrary it should be rather obvious by now that flow view should be default. Not everyone receiving these links figures out about the switcher icons right away. I've already been asked repeatedly by stakeholders.

Awesome work! Would it be possible to get this for Prototypes Grid View as well? Maybe I'm missing it, but I didn't see it as an option (I know, out of scope for this bug...haha)

PS: Can you do the functionality of adding arrows to show the direction of flow? Like in the screen :)

    Hey guys!

I can only support anyone who's commented before me on this. We relied on the old flow-view and it was essential for our developers to plan out their work and get a full understanding of the direction the project was supposed to head in. Even more importantly the flow helped our developers to figure out which screens depended on which and where to prioritise their work and time.
I can't stress enough how essential bringing this feature back soon is for us, so I'm happy you've started working on it but I also hope it won't take too long to come back. :)

Introducing an artboard grouping feature would also definitively enhance what the grid view has to offer.

@harish - appreciate the feedback, we've actually started finding the grid view useful after some improved naming of our artboards and the use of the search artboard feature in the top bar.

It will be nice to see the flow back in some way shape or form as an option.

    @Harish Narayan

Thank you for giving us a heads up. Is there an estimate time for when the old flow view will be available again? We're desperate.
    Thanks

Adding further commentary (because I'm passionate about XD and want to continue to use this amazing platform)

What would be amazing is if instead of the basic grid design, we had actual User Flow type diagrams, at least a little more descriptive with annotation, or adding notes to the user paths.

A couple of apps do this very well, and would be a natural fit to the existing XD Design Spec and/or Prototype structure: Overflow (https://overflow.io/), and the Userflows by Marvel (https://userflows.marvelapp.com/).

I believe that this would be a better implementation than the basic grid view, as the user flow callout for each artboard doesn't flag what item is being clicked to connect the user flow, just that I've connected these artboards to this other artboard.

Can we get an ETA for getting the flow view back please?? I was hoping the latest update might include the change. My dev team/stakeholders are losing the plot over here! :(

This update is incredibly frustrating. When working with design specs that have hundreds of artboards, the way the artboards are laid out are CRUCIAL. Not every project will be prototyped out. Sometimes we are using files for PRODUCTION.. You destroyed months of work! If this is how you are going to move forward, then perhaps you should provide a third tab in which you allow for linear flow/mind maps so that developers can still see the overview of screens.

Terrible. I hope this was just half implemented fro July. We need old view back (and gird maybe), but not grid only!

    Thanks.

With each new update (today another one) I hope the old feature will be reinstated. In the Adobe XD forum some one from the staff already mentioned that they're looking into it. But I guess we still have to wait a while.
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/11170342

For a laugh, read this description of the NEW (Grid-based) incarnation:

"With XD 21.0, the UX flow view design specs has been replaced by the all new and efficiently navigable grid view in Adobe XD. Grid view in prototypes and design specs makes it easier for your stakeholders or developers to quickly navigate to the most relevant artboard.
In previous versions of XD, anyone viewing prototypes needed to click through each of its individual artboard until they found the one they were looking for."

How contradictive a promotional text can be ! You might be able to state exactly the same (even more rightfully) of the older version !! What were they thinking...

To add to this, we have certain features that had over 100 different artboards within it. (I may be doing this wrong, so apologies) but I also included both Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile versions of the screenshots within the viewer.

The new Grid view of both the Prototype and Design Specs removes the UX flow and spatial awareness to my project, and I am forced to highlight all artboards in Prototype View under XD to ensure that I didn't miss linking an artboard in the prototype. I used to be able to easily determine this on a published Design Specs, as the artboard would be missing in the viewer.

Please bring back the original Design Artboard viewer in Design Specs, or give us the option to toggle the Grid View on/off. This is a step backwards, IMO, and severely crimps our ability to represent user flow to our devs.

Please bring back the UX flow view for sharing with developers. This new grid view is a backwards step and is not helpful at all. How can a dev know which button or link goes to which link? Simply clicking the 'Linked Screens' button is not helpful at all! I fail to see how anyone would use this or why? For example, how would a dev know which button linked to which screen? I would never see any need for a grid view. Please restore to the previous flow view. This is a terrible USER EXPERIENCE decision, especially for a tool that is used for creating USER EXPERIENCES!

I agree!!! Our devs heavily relied on this 'flow' view. The grid view is almost useless to us, and clicking the 'links' option is useless. Bring back the prototype / flow view, otherwise I am forced to simply give the devs the entire XD document to see what the flow looks like, which renders the 'Share for Development' functionality useless.

In fact, I don't even see how the 'links view' is even helpful. This makes it more confusing. How do I know which button links to which screen? This is a terrible decision on Adobe's part. Please FIX ASAP!
