Drag selecting existing text

When hovering over a text element, the cursor changes to a text selection cursor. This leads me to believe that I can drag select the text I'm currently hovering over (as you are able to do in applications such as Photoshop and Illustrator).

Currently though, when I try and drag select a portion of text within a text element it creates a new text box in the area I'm dragging, over top of the existing text element. This is inconsistent behaviour when compared to other Adobe apps.

This is valuable because it skips the step of having to click into a text element in order to select the text within it. This would increase efficiency when designing. In addition, I feel there are very few use cases where you would want to drag out a new text element over top of an already existing text element, which is how XD currently behaves.

    The inconsistency on how this works vs. other Adobe apps is incredibly frustrating. I mess this up dozens of times a day.

    What you need to do is click once anywhere in the text box with the Text tool (T). It will automatically select all the text but you will now be able to drag and select the text you want just like you can in Photoshop or Illustrator.

    SOLUTION:

    1. Press Text tool -> T
    2. Write a text
    3. Click outside the text area
    4. Press Selection tool -> V
    5. In the middle the selected text, Drag (...like normal dragging)

    ---Additionally----
    6. Alt + drag = to make a copy
    7. Alt + Shift + drag = to make an aligned copy

    I found a link with the way of doing it: We need to navigate OUT of the text element (hit ESC if necessary) and then try dragging your text element. Explanation here: https://www.xdguru.com/adobe-xd-guide/text/

    This question was posted in 2017, and I am having the same problem in 2019. I am surprised nobody seems to have a solution for such a basic (and yet, necessary) feature!

    I can't believe more people have not voted this one up. Still can't quite get myself to convert to XD completely because of inconsistencies with Illustrator.
