All new objects should create at the same Z-order as selected object
New layer positioning
Detrimental for a workflow as anyone spending hours per day knows.
When creating a new layer of whichever type (vector, text, rectangle, pasting an image), the position of the layer needs to be above the layer that is currently selected or within if it is a folder.
If no layers are selected than the new layer should be on the top.
Current behavior: the new layer is always created at the top except when I isolate a group of layers.
It is time consuming as we fiddle with hundreds of layers, and mouse dragging it every time literally wastes time and money.
Admins - as Anonymous stated, when I've selected a layer in the layers panel and then click one of the tools, such as Text tool, shape tool, etc and create a new text or shape later, the newly created layer jumps up to the top of the highest group instead of being placed right above the layer that I had had selected.
XD should behave as you describe. Can you provide a set of steps to reproduce the behavior you are seeing?
It sounds like the difference in behavior has something to do with what you describe as "selected" versus "when I isolate a group of layers".
Also, please include before and after screenshots that include both the Layers Panel, Canvas, and Property Inspector so we can see state of all elements involved.
Please promote this issue or combine all similar issues to one request to up-vote it. When I search for similar issues, there is quite a few of them and none of them is voted too high maybe because of this separation.
This is a basic behavior that should work the same way as in Photoshop and when designers will actually start using Xd extensively and will handle multitude of layers this behavior will become a must.
