Carousel / Side-scroll / Horizontal Scroll

Ability to create and customise content carousels or slideshow type scrollable areas.

Currently there is a "scroll" feature in build, but it seems to be about page scroll and up/down scrollable areas.

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to announce that with XD 30 we’ve added support for Scroll Groups. Try it out and please let us know your feedback.

Use these resources to learn more about the feature:

There are a few different elements here:

  • Pure sideways scrolling of the entire artboard. This is not supported yet, but it also doesn’t seem like it would address the use cases listed here – everything seems to require a fixed header that doesn’t scroll, and often wants to “lock” the endpoint of the scroll position to increments of one whole screen width (so you can’t leave it in between screens). These use cases might need richer microinteractions support (https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007/suggestions/12869229-animation-microinteractions)
  • Sideways scrolling of just a region within the artboard, with most of the artboard staying fixed. E.g. the “AppleStore.gif” attachment or the Android slideable-top-navigation pattern linked below. For this, please upvote https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007/suggestions/12869166-scrollable-area-not-whole-artboard

If there are additional features you think are needed for these use cases, please let us know here. Otherwise, I suggest we eventually merge this into the “scrollable area” feature request.

In design mode, add a container that is connected to a specific artboard. A container is a part of the design and more than likely not triggered to display (like an overlay). This would enable the possibility to have multiple side-scrolling carousels in a row (Like Netflix). I imagine there would need to be an option to disable vertical scrolling if this is necessary for your prototype. Preserving the loaded artboard's vertical scrolling could possibly allow for the ability to simulate something like a map where you can move a contained area around in any direction. A container has no interactions. That is handled in the respective artboard of which the container is connected to.

Horizontal scrolling seems like there is so much more work involved than there needs to be. For example, I duplicate the artboard and change the carousal item. I feel like that could be simplified to something like Paging.

With Paging in Framer X, I can just update each individual item and see each part rather than seeing the entire copy of the artboard. Much cleaner and I find that it helps me keep my working space organized.

Allowing Vertical scrolling is great. New applications also require horizontal scrolling and it would be super awesome if you can allow XD to do that as soon as you can (please, please, please).

There is actually a way of doing a carousel, but it is very limiting and built in a way that is the opposite of simple and clean.

For reference to anyone who needs to do something like a carousel, even if very limited, in the present day (no time to wait for the horizontal scroll feature), here, a video made by Adobe themselves:

Something like a set of parameters for a group would be lovely. Horizontal and vertical scrolling, pinch and zoom for maps and other such sundries would be nice.

It would be awesome as well to have something that can auto scroll based on parameters including time or proximity.

You can create animated carousels using Component states.

Wow, it's been more than 3 years since the feature was requested and it's 'Under Review' since July 2016. I really hope they make this feature soon. It would be extremely useful.

I have been trying to develop a web page layout that will allow for both horizontal AND vertical scrolling simultaneously. Obviously, they have the vertical scrolling feature already. It is great for standard web page development and mobile pages, but how it currently displays when you have a larger overall page, it shrinks it fit in the displays field, reducing the overall scale to fit.

How many comments does it take to finally implement this feature and not become such a complicated workaround? That can't be! A pity! It would be such a good tool.

Please make this feature happen! Would save so much time. Auto animate between two canvas isn't an option for big projects... !!!! Please Adobe! This is possible in Sketch!

Horizontal scrolling is barely less essential than vertical scrolling, so should have very high priority for inclusion in the app.
