Selection Tool States -- Automatically change to select tool after drawing a shape or text box

This was highly debated and designers are split on whether they want this or not. We may provide a preference in the future.

+1 We need this :)

Hitting escape to go back to the selection tool is a mental model we used to have on Windows XP. Please keep up with current events and allow automatic switch.

Please fix this otherwise it feels incredibly clunky to use.

Do we need to infiltrate Adobe first to get the this simple preference we are requesting?

This needs to be fixed. Even by clicking Command while selecting from type tool Just like other Adobe products. It gives a headache whenever I use XD!

I would love to see source that shows that this is 'debated' and not a MUST-have feature for all designers. I to would really love for this to be a default behavior or at the very least a preference.

This is soooo essential, I love XD but I don't understand why I have to press V every time I need to select something. It saves so much more time. You should definitely consider to provide a preference :)

honestly this is one of the main things holding me back from moving from sketch right now

Any updates on whether or not this will be a preference? Not going to use this if I have to tap V every time I want to select something.

Yeah an option to change the behaviour would be great. Users coming from other apps that work like Sketch/Figma/Studio would feel more at home and wouldn't need to get used to another way of working.

I totally agree. Thats the only reason why I can't imagine to ever use XD.
If Adobe just would give us users the possibility to choose between both options. Easy solution.
Btw: All other UX tools I know (Sketch, Figma, Framer, ...) offer the behavior we are requesting here. Why does adobe go against the current?

The existing selection tool can only be automatically selected, but when there are multiple levels, the selection will be wrong, or the selection cannot be moved after the selection is correct; it is recommended to turn off the automatic selection function, similar to PHOTOSHOP, the user can choose whether to open the automatic selection.
现有的选择工具只能是自动选择,但是当存在多层级时,会选择失误,或者是选择正确了之后无法移动;建议能够关闭自动选择功能,类似于PHOTOSHOP,用户能够自己选择是否打开自动选择

You can use ctrl-space if you want a transient zoom tool (or ctrl-option-space to zoom out). Otherwise the formal tool is persistent, as our all tools in XD.

When I used the mobile tool,Then I used the zoom tool to zoom in on the interface. After I used the zoom tool, it didn't automatically return to the move tool.......like PS?

The one thing that bothers me most about using XD--and it bothers me every time it happens--and it happens dozens of times per XD session--is when you go into Text mode by typing T, and then you click on the artboard and type in your text, and then you go to select another object but--and I've never gotten used to this because literally no other design tool does this by default--instead of selecting the object, it creates a new empty text box. All other design tools that I've used (Sketh, Figma, InVision Studio, Principle) switch back to Select mode when you click out of a text box in edit mode. Figma allows you to turn this off--or rather turn "Keep tool selected after use" on--but it's not selected by default.
Honestly, this is one of the main reasons it hurts to use XD and why I am leaning towards other design tools right now and as I build up my design team. Call me picky, but it's just so bothersome. I wish it weren't. Maybe this is how Photoshop works and so you want to keep it consistent for Adobe projects. Fine. But can you pleeeeeeease make this a preference we can turn off?

After you create a shape or perform another action, XD should switch back to the arrow tool automatically.

I agree. I don't use XD for this reason alone.

Completely agree with Ritch.
I would also add that many ux designers have been working with Sketch over the last couple of years. So the switch should feel natural and fit the mental model that has been built using sketch. I have used sketch to for a while now and had never noticed how useful the automatic switch is until i used xd and got really annoyed by not having it. -

More often than not I want to move or resize the shape I just made, not make another one. In XD I have to go back to the mouse pointer first.
I would also rather duplicate an exisiting shape then draw a new one so it doesn't make sense for me to keep it on drawing shapes.
