feature-completed  ·  AdminJoan Lafferty (XD Product Manager, Adobe) responded  ·  October 26, 2021

Hello everyone! I’m excited to announce that in XD 45 (released today 10/26), you will be able to import MP4 video into your XD designs.

To ensure platform compatibility and performance across desktop, web and mobile preview, your video must be:

MP4
H.264
AAC audio
under 15 MB
4K or under resolution.

Enjoy and we can’t wait to see what you create!

XD does not support Animated GIF, so if you are still looking for that, please start a separate request and vote on it.

Every one use icons for better understanding and communication. For message screen or placeholder prototype some time we required animated-gif icons.

I agree with everyone. If we can import a playable .gif, we can simulate interactions and reduce the requirements of the app to have multiple levels of interaction types.

I was able to import the GIF file but it won't play, it's displayed just as an image, it would be great if we could have that feature.

Video is key in 2016 when selling an interface. Interactions too.
To present with or without it is a keyfactor to switch to XD.
    I would like to ...

(beneath: Great work and thanks to the XD-Team !!!)

    YES! Please... :)

I use a LR plugin to organize my photo gallery website. I want to use an occasional animated GIF there, but can't since LR cannot import it. :(

It could be like video, where it can be imported and viewed, but not edited.

Allowing me to show animations would at least temporarily make up for the fact that you can't add scrolling to a prototype. One or the other would be really useful, but preferably both.

Or else showcasing the prototype will always have to come with an added promise/explanation/apology... And to me, that is a prototype that is simply not good enough to showcase.

It would be sweet if you could use animated vectors from AI > EA > XD, in other words creating a vectorised logo, animate it in edge animate and then import into XD, this in my opinion could being a whole new user experience to how people interact with apps created in XD in both UI and Furthering A brands experience within the app. (animated logo's)

Interactions are key when selling an interface. Being able to present them with imported animated gifs (play on hover or click, reverse play on hover off maybe?) would be huge, and allow XD to gain an edge over our previous prototyping app.

Animated gifs are important for my work, as it's a simple way to clarify an interaction and 'sell' an idea to clients.

I just came across a need for embedding video such as Vimeo or Youtube in the page. It is important to be able to prototype what the web can do and video is an essential part of communication on the web, just as much as text. Thanks for everything so far.

Yes having the option to use video would be fantastic. Even better if you could drop a YouTube link and have it play.
