Color Agnostic Character Styles
I want the option when setting up character styles that there doesn't need to be a color associated with the character style.
For example, I set up my H1, H2, H3 with their respective font families, font weight, & font size. But my design has different background colors. Sometimes my H1 is lack on a white background, which is how I set it up in the Character Styles. While other times my H1 is white on a black background,. But if I change the H1 to white it no longer correlates to the H1 I setup in my character styles unless I create another H1 variant that has the color white.
I would like if my character styles were color agnostic so I can make sweeping changes when editing my text without having to create multiple color variants of my character styles

2024 and this is still an issue. Insane.

Simply put - unlink the colour from character style please.
As the title suggest - it's been a pain to have to create 2 H1s (sometimes three) when i was designing for light/dark mode but simply just wanted to vary on colours of the same text classes. And when I want to change the font & size etc i need to make sure every H1 colour variant I created is changed to keep the design consistent - really not ideal in terms of style and class management.
Basically this post was asking for the same feature but maybe it was too old and no one seemed to see it now? https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/39060727-color-agnostic-character-styles?page=3&per_page=20

The text should have the text style only from character style, and have the color style from the color assets, if I need to change the color assets it will change every element assigned to it even the given text, and if I change the character style like font size it affects all the given text regardless the color of the text.

...or enable color styles nested in a character style. Let me have a few choices for quiet/loud, light/dark mode, validation states, or the color variations for my buttons (filled, tonal, and outline).

seems like Adobe doesn't take this "user voice" website seriously

Yep, Figma got this one right. Updating one global color component shouldn't break a dozen (or more) character style components.

Glad this next project I can switch to figma, been waiting for this simple change for 3 YEARS. Not good enough!

Currently in the process of switching to Figma because of this. This is the reason Figma is winning.

Yes, it would be great Adobe, as we don't need to assign color for character styles at all. Color assets are here for this.

+1 for this feature. Since Adobe XD is a tool for creating not only prototypes but also design systems, you want a way to standardize assets for multiple contexts. This includes being able to adapt a character style to various statuses (e.g. "danger", "warning", "success"). Color-agnostic character styles would be the solution for this. Please do consider this, Adobe.

Yes! This is so annoying. I almost messed up my mockups because of this issue.

+1 I would need 86 Character styles for 9 different font sizes. Microsoft word has this figured out?

Yep. Plus one 🙋🏼♂️

It is irritating how the text loses the style just by a colour overwrite. This is a huge blocker for handoff and consistency.

Desperate for this feature to make handoff easier

Please update this, it's very confusing.

One solution I did for this limitation is to make the text a component, then apply the color change on its instance. This way when I need to change the character style I'll just go to the main component and change the style there. I hope this helps.

It's now Aug 2021, and still no update. This is the stuff that's infuriating about Adobe. Every year they announce a bunch of new features to please investors, and neglect the basic ease of use features/minor conveniences. If Figma releases a native app (not a web container like the current), or Sketch gets robust prototyping...I swe...Anyway please for the love of [preferred deity], would you add this feature ASAP.

This is one of those minimums for improving the use of both styles and text in XD.
I know I've made this comment and feature request before but we really need character styles separated from paragraph styles and much better text tools in XD. The general lack of support for basic features like vertical text alignment, bullets and numbering, etc. is frequently a pain point, not to mention some of the more 'robust' features available in InDesign that would be hugely beneficial here (indents, paragraph spacing, drop caps... the list is extensive).

Yes please, this problem has been here since the beginning. I switch to others competitors just because of this.
